We love our photo shoot days! Waking up well before the first sun rays creep over the horizon, each shoot is an event in it's own right with everything super highly organized (mirco managed some say) by me, Mel.
I had booked an amazing renovated boatshed in Huskisson, Jervis Bay NSW as the venue for our latest campaign.
When I had gone to inspect it, I fell in love with the bright sunshine against the turquoise blue water literally out the front of the space. Ducks and pelicans frolicked in the shallow water, diners enjoyed the music at the waterfront cafe next door, and the lull of the boats coming in and out through the channel sealed the picture perfect deal.
In the lead up to the big day the forecast just seemed to get worse and worse though. We had already been battling the violent August winds on and off for a few weeks now, and it looked like they were here to stay.
We were planning on using the water as the backdrop for pretty much every picture, and if it was too choppy or deposited weed on the shore then it would ruin the effect (to say the least).
After considering cancelling and rescheduling for the following week, we decided to take our chances and see what happened.
Although we were still quite worried that instead of the usual this:
... the bay would look more like this:
We got super lucky though, as the wind swung around to come from the west (off shore) for the whole day and we were probably one of the only spots in the whole of Jervis Bay that didn't even notice the 40 km/h wind!
Hair and makeup were the first to arrive and got started in the dark.
We had organized a friend to transport us all over to the sand spit at some point during the day, and he turned up at first light as well.
It's lucky we were aiming for a nautical feel on the day, as his boat looked like a dodgy old cray boat tender! Complete with lovely crates, nets and ropes for our beautiful models to navigate around.
Kev placed us all on the beach in two loads, and with 4 of us in the boat each load it was super low in the water. One false move with either model in the boat and it was game over red rover for our day!
Thankfully we made it, and our efforts were worth it. We were treated to the stunning white sands that Jervis Bay is famous for, and again no wind. It could not have been any more perfect!
Once back on the 'mainland' the Huskisson ferry pulled up right next to us! Why not? Let's pop that in the photos as well!
We were also able to use the old 80 + year old boat slip as a backdrop for one picture. Huskisson had a boat building industry many years ago, and this original slip was still in place even though it is quite deteriorated. It was a tad tricky getting on and off for Chris our photographer though.
So the day was a hit in the end, and hands down the loveliest venue we have used so far! We do feel so SO lucky though, and might not book a spot with only one aspect next time.
(But knowing myself, I probably will.)
Until next time,
Mel Xx
